Technology and Access

Page history last edited by Mylee 7 years, 2 months ago

Goal:

Provide equitable access to online resources, minimizing barriers to participation by young people.

Objectives:

  • Develop youth friendly technology policies for in-library use that minimize barriers to young people (eg. accessing podcasts, downloading music, YouTube, MySpace and interactive computer games).
  • Maximise access to library collections via interactive online tools (eg. blogs).
  • Develop targeted youth web pages including curriculum related content, general information and youth specific interests and issues.
  • Consider the "mobile first" priorities of the youth audience for online content (eg. providing library apps, mobile friendly websites, access to WiFi printing services.)
  • Develop and maintain all web content with young adults involved in planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Provide opportunities to develop information literacy skills.
  • Foster "media mentor" skills in library staff serving youth.
