Goal:
- Build young adult collections that are responsive, relevant and accessible to young people.
Objectives:
- Create a youth collection management policy which addresses the variety of formats (print and online) and specific needs of young people, ensuring the policy addresses issues of censorship and challenges eg. challenging content (language or subject)
- Integrate the collection for young adults into the library’s overall collection development plan and policy.
- Promote the collection through youth focused displays, reading lists online access to the catalogue and peer to peer recommendations (eg. via blogs, website, displays of reviews)
- Engage young people in selecting material for the collection.
- Provide a range of formats that are informed by new developments in youth literature (print, multimedia and online).
- Source expertise in youth materials (eg. library suppliers, reviewing journals, Centre for Youth literature).
- Review collection use regularly to evaluate the engagement with young adult collections including: circulation figures, in-library use, appeal, appropriateness and relevance.
